Jamie Prado - Extrasoular

This is a free download coming from EDM.com, a great track from Jamie Prado.  This is a pretty different take on indie dance and house that works out nicely. The gently filtered piano chords that come in an out for the intro, moving into a light delay sets the background for the rest of the track. There is very little in the way of actual percussive elements right up to the 2:00 mark, as there is really no need - the piano itself works well as both melodic and percussive elements to carry things up to that point.

Have a listen below, and grab the download straight from the embedded player if you're feeling it!

Redlight x Tinashe - Pretend

I'm a bit late posting this, as Redlight published this a couple weeks ago already. But once you listen to Pretend, you'll understand why I had to post it regardless of how late I am to this one - it goes HARD. This is a heavy future garage/post-dubstep rework of Tinashe's Pretend, originally featuring A$AP ROCKY.

Pretend comes in rather unassuming - a chopped vocal loop over a fairly spacious background tracking.  That unassuming demeanour is shattered when the bassline drops in at the one minute mark. Though the bassline is heavy, the entire track is still fairly minimal and bare - which in this case translates into raw energy throughout.

The production style is almost a bit of a throwback, as it reminds me a bit of the minimal production from Redlight circa 2010 in MDMA, the instrumental that turned into the single "What You Talking About" featuring Ms. Dynamite (MDMA was the B-side on this release).

No word on release of this one yet, but enjoy the stream below.

The Golden Boy - The Promise [Eton Messy Records]

Once again, Eton Messy is hitting the mark on another upcoming release.  I've been listening to The Golden Boy for quite a while, and I know Eton Messy has been supporting his work for a long time too, having launched their free downloads series with one of his tracks "Oh My Gosh". Putting out a Golden Boy release on the Eton Messy Records label makes a lot of sense.

The Promise is a deep house roller with an emotional vocal.  This is layered on top of a nice semi subtle bassline that is light enough to fit in an easy listening session at home, but hits hard enough to be just as at home on any dance floor. All of this is topped off with accent keys providing a little more interest in the higher frequency range. All together, it makes for a great and catchy house track, which is unsurprising, given the solid history of both the producer and the label.

The Promise will be getting a full release on April 12th.  Until then, stream it from Eton Messy's Soundcloud to your heart's content.

Slim The Chemist - KissTheSky [uknowy music]

If you're looking for something with a bit more fresh summer hip hop flavour, look no further than the upcoming release on uknowy music from Slim The Chemist - Backyard Vibes. Uknowy put up a teaser mix on their Soundcloud along with the full premiere of KissTheSky that is embedded below.

KissTheSky is really the embodiment of backyard vibes in musical form - chilled out and laid back. Grab the full release when it's released, either as a digital download or on cassette if you are into physical releases, especially of the limited edition variety. Keep an eye on uknowy's Bandcamp store for this release, or shop their back catalogue at the same location.

In the meantime, sit back and chill out to these backyard vibes.

Autograf - Dream

What better track for a Mellow Monday post than one with the lyrics "I'm just stuck here in a dream"? This one is for those of you day dreaming on Monday, or those of you still stuck in weekend mode.

Believe it or not, this is one of Autograf's first original tracks, though they have amassed a large following on multiple web platforms and have done a number of remixes (Notably a great remix of Odesza's All We Need, which was included in the March 6th Friday Care Package). There is no release date for this yet, so streaming will have to do for the time being. Autograf also announced a supporting role on tour with Klingande, so you can expect to be hearing more buzz about these guys as time goes on.

This has a real chill, summery/beach vibe right from the start, with great vocals coming in at the 0:36 mark.  The whole track has a fairly laid back house feel to it, so hit play and enjoy whatever dream you happen to be stuck in today.

CRSSD Festival Mix - Lee K

Dance music publication heavyweight Mixmag uploaded this mix from Lee K, leading up to the CRSSD Festival that went down in San Diego this weekend. I've been listening to this mix over and over since finding it on Mixmag's Soundcloud page - you can start this mix from anywhere along the stream and it is enjoyable.  This is a hot mix and master blend of house and techno, so if those are genres you are into, get on this mix asap - you won't regret it.

Standout tracks in this mix for me are:

Beatamines - Lotus

Miguel Bastida - Moudness

Amber - Waves of Grain (Hobo's Hidden Resort Remix)

But honestly, just listen to the whole mix.  It's spectacularly curated and mixed. If you want more from Lee K, check out her Soundcloud page here.

Soulless Sun - Hulk

We're sneaking in another late week addition into the blog. We love to support local artists whenever possible if they fit within what we are doing here at freshdrops, and with Soulless Sun being based right here in the same city of Regina, how could we not support this?

Soulless Sun has been grinding away hard at what he does, both with running his online radio show Ricochet Radio with Whit3N9nja on Friday nights, and on his production game. He released this track for free on his Soundcloud page after reaching his goal of 1000 likes. Big ups for reaching the goal and continuing on with the music he is passionate about.

The Hulk is a Melbourne Bounce track, for those of you who are into genre classification.  This one has all the hallmarks of the genre, so if you're a fan of bigroom, festival "EDM" or Electro, this is one for you.

Support your local producers, grab this track and share it where you can!

Rose - No Good [Free EP]

Rose delivers a fresh and energetic rework of a classic house vocal in No Good. Keeping an old school flavour with pure piano chords alongside intricate synth work and cut and pitched vocals, this track really stands out as something a bit different.  Enjoyable from start to finish.

This was released as a full free EP with remixes of No Good by Prizm as well as a collaborative remix coming from TONIIA and Santiago. Make sure to grab the full EP and check out each of the artists Soundcloud accounts as linked above for more great music, much of it released for free as well.

Owen Westlake - Trust Me

Owen Westlake brings a mature and classy vibe to the deep/tech/future house scene with the Trust Me. Simple and understated vocals settle nicely into the soundscape of the breakdowns, while there are serious deep and ever so slightly delayed bassline grooves when the vocal drops out and the dance floor vibes start flowing.

This one was released as a free download, so you can grab it just by clicking the arrow in the top right corner of the embedded player.  Make sure to check out Owen Westlake's Soundcloud for previous work, much of which is also free.

Baewolf - Hope

Baewolf dropped a free download a little while back, dripping with feel good, chill trap vibes. With a mellow melodic key intro, Hope has just a bit more kick in the percussion that pushes it over the edge of being a really chill trap track.  Still laid back enough that I'm including it for Mellow Monday, but the kicks should get you moving and through those Monday blahs.  Check this one out and download for free.

Huxley - Freebies (Blurred Demos)

UK producer Huxley released his full artist album Blurred back in late October of 2014, but just recently tossed a full setlist of demos from the album for free download up on his Soundcloud page.  From Huxley's description of the playlist: "here are some demos that never made it onto my album, Blurred. none are finished, mastered or mixed. but i hope you enjoy! feel free to play, listen or delete at will."

Those of you who have heard of Huxley know that the man produces quality house music.  One of my favourite tracks that still occasionally makes it into my sets is Box Clever, along with the rest of the Out Of The Box EP, released back in 2012.

The recent upload is pretty much another full album, for free download.  There is a range of styles in this, ranging from deep house tracks such as Halloumi V3 and GenericWybes, to borderline bassline and grime on Roll It, to D&B vibes on Inst 14 Nbb.

These are all downloadable directly from Soundcloud, so all that's keeping you from adding these tracks to your iTunes is a couple clicks.  Get clicking!

Nocturnal Sunshine - Take Me There

If you enjoy your electronica deep, grooving, and on the dark and dubby side, Take Me There by Nocturnal Sunshine will be right up your alley.  This is the first production taken from the debut album by Nocturnal Sunshine, Maya Jane Coles' new alias. If you have been around the deep house scene for any length of time at all in the last several years, Maya Jane Coles should not be a new name to you.

The album is available for pre-order through iTunes, and you can download Take Me There immediately to hold you over to the full release on May 25th.  However, if you would rather just grab the single on its own without pre-ordering, it is also available as a single from Beatport.

For those of you needing a refresher on some old Maya Jane Coles, here is one of my favourite tracks of hers, and arguably one of her most well known tracks, What They Say from back in 2010.

Ren Phillips x Michael Jackson - Remember The Time

This is a great deep future house remake of Michael Jackson's Remember the Time from Ren Phillips. The King of Pop's vocals remain quite intact for the most part, making this instantly recognizable. Ren Phillips makes his house production chops evident, working a deep bassline along with melodic keys around the vocal samples to make this a serious dancefloor shaking house track.

Grab it for free through the shopping cart icon by following Ren Phillips on Soundcloud, and add this to your collection.

Maejor - Me And You

Maejor comes with the complete package on Me And You, an emotional R&B vocal layered overtop of a chilled out house beat produced by Nico Stadi. This is one track that is undeniably catchy and poppy, but I just can't get enough. Then, just when you think you know the track, they switch up the style, transitioning in just under the three minute mark to finish off the track with something new. All in all, this is just a purely enjoyable, catchy single.  Have a listen in the player below, and grab it on iTunes here.

Shenga - Just Can't Stop

I found Shenga, a duo based out of Sheffield in the UK, through Instagram where they had liked one of my posts regarding the blog. I decided to check out their material, as they had a link to their Soundcloud in their account description. I was pleasantly surprised, finding some really great house productions, of which Just Can't Stop is only one example. This is some deep house with some definite garage influence and a generally grimey vibe throughout.  It all works together through a nice bassline chord progression to really get the vibe across.

Grab the Just Can't Stop EP along with remixes from Beatport, and make sure to check Shenga's Soundcloud as well.

CRWN - Better Together

Today's Mellow Monday vibes are brought to you from Manila based producer CRWN. He brings a chilled funky vibe to this free download on MIRAJE, a net-label based in Paris. This track bridges a number of genres, with elements of funk, electronica, future beats and hip hop, Better Together comes out with a distinct feel that fans of any of these genres should appreciate, while also appeasing an appetite for something new.

Speaking of Better Together, this track and your music collection would be better together... and with no economic barriers in your way, why not pick it up through the download button on the player below?

Just Kiddin - The Getaway Mixtape

We've been rocking this mix here and there for some time now, as Just Kiddin published it to their Soundcloud not quite a month ago.  We thought it would be a good time to post it though, as it is a promo mix for the new EP that Just Kiddin is releasing for free through Bit Torrent today (March 2nd). The two tracks that Just Kiddin are releasing are Getaway and Always There, which appear in the mix at 12:50 and 27:50 respectively.Grab the two track EP (the pack includes the mix, and both mp3 and wav files) right here. All you have to do is submit your email address and download the bundle torrent file.  You will need a torrent client to finish the download.

This is a great summery mix that follows a nice energy progression throughout, with each track building on the last, and with a nice mix of fresh faces and established artists featured. If there was a mix to get you through the Monday blahs, the midweek slump, or the last bits of winter, it's definitely this one.  The mix is up for free download as well, so you can take it wherever you like by hitting the shopping cart button on the player below.
